The co-curricular kickboxing activity is a structured programme which was first started in October 2001 with a total of 130 participants. THis programme is adapted from the National Kickboxing Council of Trinidad and Tobago (NKCTT) – Youth Outreach Program.
The activity is coached and directed by Mr. Quan Kep. Mr Quan Kep is Chairman of the executive of NKCTT, Secretary of the Working Committee of NKCTT, and a referee and judge at all NKCTT events.
The benefits of kickboxing are exercise and fitness, self-control, self-esteem and confidence, anger management, discipline, fundamentals of officiating (e.g. timekeeping etc which can be avenues of employment) and ability to defend oneself.
There are numerous measures put in place to ensure that there is zero percent incidence of injury:
a) proper training and preparation
b) even match based on weight, experience and age
c) fighters are well padded with headgear, shin pads, oversized boxing gloves etc.
